What is the Registry for Equine Diplomate Osteopaths International for Equine, Canine, and Animal Osteopaths, Inc. (REDOI)?
REDOI is a registry with the purpose of upholding, protecting, and preserving high standards, professionalism, and education in equine osteopathy and its registered practitioners. The registry guarantees, reviews, and maintains the highest level of education possible through the establishment, development, screening, and monitoring of the standardized competency profile for the equine osteopath.
The primary REDOI board consists of seven voting members who are osteopathic educators and/or practicing EDOs knowledgeable about equine, canine, or animal osteopathic education and passionate about maintaining the integrity of osteopathy.
The REDOI Secretariat and the publications on this website are the only official sources of information regarding REDOI policies, procedures, and intentions.
The Registry of Equine Diplomate Osteopaths International (REDOI) has a multi-faceted mission:
1. To accredit worldwide higher educational institutions offering osteopathic education which demonstrate the ethical, professional, and educational requirements and standards of our registry.
Accreditation of educational institutions by REDOI is a voluntary, peer-reviewed process of quality assurance that determines whether the equine, canine, or animal osteopathic education program meets established standards while also fostering institutional and programmatic improvement. To achieve and maintain accreditation, a program must meet the REDOI standards.
Programs are required to demonstrate that graduates exhibit general professional competencies appropriate for entry to the next stage of training that also serve as the foundation for lifelong learning and proficient equine, canine, or animal osteopathic care. Upon passing the Equine Osteopath Competency Examination (EOCE), graduates of these educational institutions can register with REDOI and use the title and quality mark Equine Diplomate Osteopath (EDO)®.
2. To administer the Equine Osteopath Competency Examination (EOCE), a standardized written and practical examination for examinees to successfully demonstrate core osteopathic knowledge and techniques. The EOCE is designed and administered by an international board of EDO examiners. Upon verification of successful completion of advanced training in equine, canine, or animal osteopathy, a graduate of any accredited institution offering osteopathic education can participate in the examinations administered by REDOI.
3. To award the Equine Diplomate Osteopath (EDO)® title to those who have successfully completed the EOCE and registered with REDOI. The registry grants the use of the title exclusively to these qualified practitioners.
4. To maintain the stature of the EDO title, including requiring registrants to pursue additional education to expand their knowledge and professional skills.
Continuing education credits are accredited by the Animal Osteopathic Continuing Education Accreditation Council (AOCEAC) under the jurisdiction of REDOI. The AOCEAC consists of three board members dedicated to expanding osteopathic knowledge and ensuring advancement of clinical knowledge and skills.
5. To promote and ensure recognition of the EDO title.
